Where Did It Go Wrong With Tom?

Prior to the chain of events last December in Palm Beach in which she was arrested and later checked into an alcohol treatment center, Luann de Lesseps admits that she was drinking about seven drinks a day.

The Real Housewives of New York City star told PEOPLE, “I would start with a martini and maybe have two martinis, and then get into the wine at dinner. Then I’d have a little bit of vodka soda going out.”

Luann was arrested in the same city her wedding to Tom D'Agostino had taken place in one year prior. The couple announced their separation last summer (more on their split in the video above). “I couldn’t put my finger on why I was feeling so anxious and why I was drinking more,” she added to PEOPLE about her emotions last December and returning to the town her wedding took place in. “It makes sense now.”

The Big Apple mom notes that a car accident involving her two kids back in 1999 also contributed to her issues. “I came down a mountainside in Switzerland,” she said. “I thought I killed myself and my children... I never really faced that horrific accident, and through that and everything else, my emotions just crept up on me and drove me to the point of self-medicating with alcohol. People think it’s just about Tom. It’s not just about Tom.”

Since then, Luann has delved into work, including launching a cabaret show, and is living a healthier lifestyle, with a focus on yoga. Her next court date is scheduled for later this month. And, in an interview with The Daily Dish, she shared that she's busy living her life.

"Well, I mean, I have a court date pending in April. Obviously, this kind of looms over my head and I can't wait for it to be over," she told us this week. "Obviously, you know, I regret what happened. I have apologized and I just want it to be over and move on with my life. And I'm not really letting it me stop doing what I need to do in my life. So I'm preparing my cabaret shows and I'm trying to focus on being positive about it."

And in reflecting on what happened, she added, "Well, I've had a lot of chapters in my book in life and this is just another chapter — which I look at it and say, 'Wow, I learned. I learned a lot about myself in this most [recent] chapter of my life.' And it's taking what happens to you and learning from it, so that moving forward you can make changes. And that's what life is about: having experiences so that you can change course to go to your destiny."

Check out what's in store for Luann when Season 10 of RHONY kicks off April 4 at 9/8c. Preview, below.
