During The Real Housewives of New York City Season 8 finale on Wednesday, Luann de Lesseps was reeling from the revelation that her fiancé, Thomas D'Agostino, had allegedly kissed another woman shortly after they became engaged. The news broke after Bethenny Frankel had intel and a photo of the alleged infidelity.
In the wake of the fallout from the drama, Luann and Thomas are now looking to the future-- and their New Year's Eve wedding-- and Luann is revealing why she still plans on marrying him. "I'm not going to let a stupid kiss ruin the rest of my life. He screwed up. What he did was wrong. But this wasn't premeditated. It wasn't an affair. It was a mistake," she told People.
During the RHONY finale, Luann explained that the incident took place the same night they had had a fight and he ran into an old fling. She added to People, "He was upset with me. It was a stupid retaliation of some sort. He did the wrong thing, and he totally recognizes that. I know in my heart of hearts that he loves me."
Thomas is also now addressing that night, also in a statement to People. "If I could take it back, I would. I deeply regret the mistakes I've made, and most of all hate the way it hurt Luann," he said.
These days, the couple seem happy, and Thomas has even been spending time with Luann's two children, Victoria and Noel, and they have been taking in the sights of the Hamptons. Still, that moment was hard for Luann. "It felt like someone ripped my heart out of my chest. I was devastated. I had my heart broken on television," she said, adding, "Obviously, if it happens again, I would have a serious problem with that. Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me."
Luann shared on Twitter that all these months later, the pair are "stronger than ever," noting that "Remember it was 6 months ago, Tom & I truly love each other. We worked it through and are stronger than ever!"
