Margaret Josephs Says Her Relationship with Her Stepkids Is "Always a Work in Progress"

When fans of The Real Housewives of New Jersey first met Margaret Josephs last season, they got to know the woman behind the pigtails. We learned that the beautiful and bubbly Margaret has also gone through some pretty challenging times in her life, namely her strained relationship with some of her children following her divorce from her first husband, Jan Josephs, after 17 years of marriage, which you can find out more about in the video above.

Margaret told The Daily Dish during an interview in November that her relationship with her kids is "not really much better" since last season of RHONJ. "Listen, when I said I was disconnected with my children, they would always answer text messages. My children are also much older. I don't know if everybody had realized that. Two of the kids that I'm speaking of, one's 40, one's like 37. They're not so distant from my age. I also have numerous children that I don't speak about on the show because my family's extremely private," Margaret explained. "But I'm always gonna work on my relationships with my kids, we're healing, and I'm just very hopeful that things work out, but it's always a work in progress."

It hasn't been easy for all of Margaret's children to see her in the public eye, either. "I definitely have a sense of how they feel about [RHONJ] because they talk to my ex-husband, they talk to my other kids and everything else. I know one of my kids watches the show, finds it entertaining," Margaret said. "I don't think my daughter likes it very much. That's sad to me because I know she would love it and everything else. I think it's hard for your kids at all to watch you on TV."

But we got to see a bright spot in all of this when we met Margaret's stepson Bret, to whom she has remained close since the divorce, in Wednesday night's episode of RHONJ. Margaret and Bret discussed their family's reunion at the funeral for Jan's mother and how it unfortunately didn't bring them all closer together just yet. "So it's just like weird, it's like all these years go by, we're together all the time, and then no one's really together," Margaret opened up to Brett. "So it's like a little crazy."

Margaret also shared that Bret's relationship with his dad, Jan, hasn't been in such a good place, and he's not quite ready to work on it just yet. But Margaret is determined to do something about it. "I have a great relationship with Jan. I have a great relationship with Bret," she said in an interview during the episode. "I should be able to play family therapist matchmaker, get them back together, why not?"
