Married to Medicine's Dr. Simone has been married to Cecil Whitmore for over two decades. Here's a look at their relationship.
Dr. Simone Whitmore is an original cast member on Married to Medicine. Over the past 9 seasons, viewers have experienced her highs and lows from being a doctor and entrepreneur to raising kids, and of course, being a wife to Cecil Whitmore. Their relationship hasn’t been without its challenges, as is true of most of the other married couples on the show.
Despite the ups and downs, they're still going strong. Here’s a look at Dr. Simone and Cecil’s relationship over the years.
How Long Have Dr. Simone and Cecil Been Together?
Dr. Simone and Cecil are the couple on the show who have been married the longest. They have been together for 27 years and countring. The duo met as college students nearly 35 years ago while attending Morehouse and Spelman College in Atlanta. Together, they have two kids, Miles and Michael.
Did Dr. Simone and Cecil Get Divorced?
Marriage isn’t without its ups and downs, but Dr. Simone memorably went into the Season 5 Married to Medicine reunion, dropping the biggest bomb of all. She said she was planning to divorce Cecil.
This came after fans witnessed one of the most romantic moments shared between Dr. Simone and Cecil in Season 4 when they renewed their vows while celebrating their 20th wedding anniversary on a trip to Hawaii. The troubles mounted when she talked about the discomfort of Cecil’s close female friend and they began arguing over every little thing. They went to therapy and it seemed like things were getting better. In an interview with PEOPLE, she said things changed after they dropped their son Miles off at college.
“Cecil and I had a disagreement,” she explained. “We were trying to talk through it — with sometimes tense, sometimes normal negotiations in process — and he woke up on Saturday morning, we had a blow-up. I knew that day that my marriage was over."
She also explained before that final straw, things were rocky.
“We’re in a place where we’re arguing over basic s**t,” she said in an episode that aired in December. “He’s just so hostile and angry about every little thing. When somebody is being mean, it’s hard to replace that with something nice or smile. It’s difficult.”
Dr. Simone also said they let life take over and didn’t continue with marriage counseling.
By the end of the Season 5 reunion, the couple decided to give their marriage another try. In subsequent seasons of Married to Medicine have chronicled their work in rebuilding their relationship including going to couples therapy and eventually moving back under one roof.
As they get ready to be empty nesters, we can't wait to see what the future holds for Dr. Simone and Cecil.
