Ryan Serhant Bought a New House — and You'll Never Guess Where
The Sell It Like Serhant real estate pro is calling his new neighborhood "the Paris of New York."
There's no question that Ryan Serhant knows real estate and New York. The Million Dollar Listing New York broker made his fortune by knowing how to sell locations just as well as the pricey Manhattan properties featured on the show. So when he told The Daily Dish podcast about the townhouse he and his wife Emilia Bechrakis bought in Brooklyn, it was a sure sign that the borough has truly become the hottest place to live in New York.
"We just bought a house in Brooklyn," Ryan said. "We're going to renovate and do some work to it. It's a big house, a lot of room to grow into."
The Sell It Like Serhant star explained that Brooklyn has changed a lot over the years. "We do so much in Brooklyn now!" Ryan explained. "What's crazy is it used to be, people would move to Brooklyn who couldn't afford Manhattan. Right now, people move to Brooklyn first."
His clients are also following the trend and are asking to see properties in popular Brooklyn neighborhoods before looking at places in Manhattan.
"We get people calling us from all over the world to say, 'I want to look in DUMBO, Boerum Hill, Cobble Hill, and if you have something in Brooklyn Heights. If we can't find anything there, maybe West Village, maybe Chelsea," Ryan said.
While he admitted he does see prices rising in certain parts of the borough because of their increasing popularity, Brooklyn still has a lot of benefits over Manhattan. "There are definitely parts of Brooklyn that are really expensive, but the quality of life is better; the monthly payments are better, whether you're renting or owning," he shared. "There's a vibe of love in Brooklyn that you just don't get in Manhattan anymore."
Now that the news is out about his move to Brooklyn, does Ryan think it may inspire others to follow suit? "I think everyone in Brooklyn just threw up a little bit," he joked.
