Mohamed Hadid Says Lisa Vanderpump "Misconstrued" His Comments About His Children's Lyme Disease
The #RHOBH real estate mogul issued a statement concerning Bella and Anwar Hadid's diagnosis on #WWHL.
Though we all expected a throwdown between Kathryn Edwards and Faye Resnick at Kyle Richards' barbecue during Tuesday night's episode of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, the biggest bombshell may have come from Lisa Vanderpump. The restaurateur revealed that her longtime friend Mohamed Hadid told her that Bella and Anwar, his children with Yolanda Foster, do not have Lyme disease like their mother has said.
However, Mohamed remembered their discussion differently and sent a statement about it to Watch What Happens Live. "I can only imagine that my response to a question asking how my kids are doing with 'fine' was misconstrued. I have too much respect for all five of my children to speak about them publicly... in a restaurant or otherwise. I won't speak further on something that should now be put to rest," Mohamed said in his statement as read by Andy Cohen during Tuesday night's episode of WWHL.
Yolanda also shared a photo of Bella receiving treatment for Lyme disease on Instagram Tuesday. "Watching my brave babies [suffer] in silence in order to support me in my journey has struck the deepest core of hopelessness inside of me, it is because of them that I continue to fight relentlessly," Yolanda wrote. "I will not allow them to live a life of pain and suffering……. I will prevail and walk to the end of the earth to find a cure for them and millions of others debilitated by this invisible disease!!!! We all deserve to live a healthy life, don't you think?"
Yolanda publicly revealed that Bella and Anwar have been battling Lyme disease since they were diagnosed in 2012 at the Global Lyme Alliance inaugural gala last October. Shortly after the news hit, Bella and Anwar's stepfather David Foster commented on how they may have contracted the illness. "They all were around horses their whole lives. They're all equestrians, and they know now that [Lyme disease] is transmitted by horse flies as well as deer ticks, so it's possible they got it by hanging around horses," Foster told HuffPost Live in October. "We don't know."
Bella spoke publicly about her struggles with Lyme disease in an interview with the Evening Standard last November. "I still have Lyme in my spine; my back has been in excruciating pain for three years. I have it in all my joints and it goes up to my brain," Bella said. "So sometimes I have trouble with putting together sentences. I go to sleep at 10 p.m. and wake up at 10 a.m. fully exhausted."
Bella and Anwar's sister Gigi Hadid got emotional when talking about her siblings' struggle with Lyme disease during a recent appearance on MasterChef Celebrity Showdown during which she won $25,000 for the Global Lyme Alliance. "Not enough people know what Lyme disease is and the dangers of being bitten by an insect,” Gigi said on the show, according to Entertainment Tonight. “For that on its own is amazing but with [the cash prize of] $25,000, we can help with finding a cure. It can help so much.”
