Naomi Campbell Taught Gigi Hadid How to Shake Off the Haters and Embrace Her Unique Runway Walk
The fashion legend helped the #RHOBH daughter feel confident in her own strut.
Gigi Hadid has proven she can stand out from the model crowd whether she's using social media to shine a light on real issues, or hitting the runway with a swagger that's uniquely her own. And, it turns out, one of the women who helped shape her signature walk is none other than a fashion legend herself: Naomi Campbell. The supermoel offered the 20-year-old some sage wisdom about how to shrug off anyone who might not like the way she walks down a runway.
"She said, 'Don’t apologize, don’t do it. You are perfect the way you are. Everyone said my walk was weird too,'" The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills daughter told Love magazine. Their supermodel bonding sesh took place in a hotel in Milan where Naomi even offered her some lessons on how to further perfect her walk.
"I go to her hotel and we end up practicing walking in the hallway of the hotel. Italian families are coming out to watch and she’s like, 'Don’t look at them, keep walking, they’re your audience.' The elevator would open and the waiter would come out — 'Don’t look at him, he’s your audience, do a spin and keep going.' It was terrifying, walking in front of this Italian grandmother and her kid," Gigi recalled. "After getting a lot of different opinions about my past Fashion Week I went into the VS show thinking, 'Yeah. Maybe I am different, but I have heard Naomi saying, ‘Bitch better have my money after I walked for her.’ So it’s going to be fine.' If people don’t like how I walk then they don’t have to watch."
