Nene Leakes Explained Why Gregg Leakes "Panicked" and Reached out to Marlo Hampton
The Real Housewives of Atlanta friends shared their takes on the dramatic day before the "Bye Wig" party.
Sunday night's episode of The Real Housewives of Atlanta featured an explosive "Bye Wig" party, but the central tension really focused on the day before the get-together. Gregg Leakes, who is currently battling cancer, had been hospitalized for a blood clot and was worried about how his wife, Nene Leakes, was handling the news. He reached out to two of her close friends, Marlo Hampton and Cynthia Bailey, and asked them to check in with her. Marlo said she then left her nail appointment, canceled her hair appointment, and drove straight over to Nene's home but Nene refused to see her. While Marlo was annoyed that Nene wouldn't see her, Nene felt Marlo was being unsupportive and picking a fight with her. And while the two hashed out their issues and seemed to resolve things at the party, they are now revealing what exactly made Gregg so nervous in the first place on The Real Housewives of Atlanta After Show.
Nene shared that Gregg almost cut his finger off when using a hedge trimmer and she had rushed him to the hospital and then he was readmitted. "It was all I could take. Really, honestly. I really had been strong through everything," Nene said. "He panicked because I was so upset when I left him at the hospital again because I cannot deal with that stuff. Driving in my car just crying, panicking, like, oh my god. And he called me; they were just getting him in his room. And I was home in the driveway planning this 'Bye Wig' party and I just broke down on the phone talking to him. Like I had never broken down the whole time that he's been sick. So he felt like, 'I can't help her; I'm in the hospital.' So he calls [Marlo] — that's the wrong number to dial."
While Marlo said she "comes to the rescue every time," Nene elaborated on her feelings: "What Marlo did not know about me was that I felt like it was OK to cry. I felt like it was OK to break down. I felt like they thought, 'OK, this bitch is fit to kill herself.' And I actually was like, I need to just cry. I actually told my husband, 'Can I be sad? Please just let me be sad for 30 minutes.'"
While they each have different approaches to dealing with stressful situations, Nene does stress,"Marlo was trying to be the best friend she could be." The two further hashed out what happened when they passed each other in the street and when Marlo ended up coming to Nene's house; check out their different takes on the situation in the video above.
