Shereé Agrees with RHOA Cast That Nene's Friendship with Wendy Williams Is "Strategic"

The relationship sparked some drama at The Real Housewives of Atlanta reunion.

Nene Leakes' rekindled friendship with Wendy Williams was a major topic of conversation during Part 1 of The Real Housewives of Atlanta Season 12 reunion on May 10, and alum Shereé Whitfield came ready to put this relationship in check on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen: @ Home.

Andy Cohen read a fan question during the WWHL: @ Home After Show on May 10 (clip above) wondering if Shereé thought Nene's friendship with Wendy was "genuine or strategic." Shereé said it was "strategic" without hesitation.

Nene confirmed that she and Wendy are "in a neutral place" during the RHOA reunion, sharing that they are "OK" these days. However, Kenya Moore promptly called this friendship into question in light of Wendy's negative comments on her talk show after Nene attempted to FaceTime her to chat during an Instagram Live last month.

"I don't think that that is a real friendship. I think that they both are not really being genuine and honest with each other," Kenya said during the reunion. "I mean, clearly this woman got online and she was talking about her basically like a dog. 'That girl over there.' She was saying the most degrading things, and if that is someone who is truly your friend, why would she go on her platform, basically say, 'I am Wendy Williams. That is why I'm the queen of daytime TV, and you don't come for the queen.' She doesn't think anything of Nene."

Tanya Sam said that she believes Kenya is reading too much into that moment. "I don't think it was that deep, Andy. I think it was, yeah, she's on a TV show, and she chose to say what she wants to say," she said at the reunion. "I think you put a lot on that, but I don't think it was that deep."

Kandi Burruss claimed during the reunion that Nene's relationship with Wendy is "strategic," like many of her friendships. "Personally, I feel like Nene's very strategic with her friendships. The Wendy situation, to me, I feel like that's definitely strategic. If anybody else would talk s--t about Nene like that, she would've went in, but Wendy is very beneficial as her friend. She's on a major platform. She could feed her information so that she could say it to the people and show favoritism to Nene," Kandi explained. "So, for me, it's easy to see why she doesn't want that friendship to go totally under the bridge."

Nene refuted all of these claims and stated that her friendship with Wendy is nobody else's business but theirs. "First of all, when Wendy and I got back together, the one thing I said to her was, 'Anything that happens to us, I'm going to come to you. I'm not going on social media.' So with that said, I'm not going to discuss our friendship amongst these girls," Nene shared. "They could say what they feel is strategic and what's not strategic. I don't need Wendy, honey. You forgot who the f--k I am. I don't need Wendy for any damn thing, OK, other than a friendship."
