Jennifer Garner Explains Her Viral Oscars Moment: What Realization Did She Come to During the Show?

Frances McDormand's powerful speech at the 2018 Oscars caused quite a stir, and viewers had a love fest over Tiffany Haddish and Maya Rudolph as presenters. But, there was also a buzzed-about moment that didn't take place onstage. We're talking, of course, about that face that Jennifer Garner made. 

From her seat in the audience, the actress was seen clapping — and then a look of realization-slash-horror seemed to cross her face. The Internet quickly seized on the moment, wondering in meme after meme: what realization did Jennifer Garner just come to? 

Creative viewers threw out plenty of theories, guessing that her expression had to do with anything from forgetting to thaw chicken to leaving the curling iron on at home. Check out some of the reactions, below: 

Now, the actress herself has weighed in on the mystery surrounding her semi-stunned face. But as it turns out, she's just as confused as the rest of us!

Though Garner didn't have any concrete answers as to what her big epiphany might have been, she was happy to offer up some possible explanations of her own. On March 5, Garner put forth three of those theories on her Instagram stories.

Theory A has the actress thinking: “Congrats to Shape of Water! Maybe I should date a fish?” In Theory B, the Capital One ambassador thought: "Hey Jimmy Kimmel, what’s in your wallet? Wait, where’s my wallet?" Yet one more possible thing Garner was thinking: "Can’t wait to work with Lena Dunham [on a new TV project]! Wait, did I sign a nudity waiver?"
