Why Andy Cohen Was "So Surprised" About Porsha Williams' Divorce Announcement

News broke that Porsha Williams and Simon Guobadia are divorcing after about 15 months of marriage on February 22. Both members of the former couple have since spoken out on the matter, with The Real Housewives of Atlanta alum thanking her Instagram followers for their "prayers" and support," while Simon more candidly wrote on the same social media platform, "Will Stop Loving My Wife When Divorce is Final." 

Now, Andy Cohen is reacting to the news (which comes shortly after Porsha announced her return to the upcoming 16th season of RHOA).

Andy prefaced his remarks by explaining that he "wanted to talk a little Housewives news." 

"First of all, Porsha announced last week that she is leaving Simon and I gotta tell you something... I was so surprised," Andy explained. "None of us knew any of this was on the horizon and this was really meant to be Porsha's happily ever after kind of victory lap season." 

As a result, "I was so surprised and taken aback," Andy continued. "And listen, we wanted Porsha on the show for Porsha. We would take Porsha married, single, picking up the pieces of her life, on high, on low, however she wants, you know, however she's gonna be, but we didn't know, and this is really a big right turn from the story that I think all of us thought we would be telling, so sending love to Porsha."

Porsha Williams and Simon Guobadia Divorce Details

PEOPLE reported the news of Porsha and Simon's separation on February 22 after obtaining court documents in Atlanta showing a divorce filing. As fans may recall, Porsha tied the knot with the Nigerian businessman in two elaborate ceremonies in Georgia in November 2022. The couple got engaged in May 2021 just weeks after going public with their romance. 

News of the divorce came 10 days after the mom of one confirmed her return to RHOA by paying tribute to her husband. "Who said that? Porsha Williams coming back to [The] Real Housewives of Atlanta?" Porsha said in an Instagram video about her return to the franchise. "That's false, but Porsha Guobadia is in the building. See y'all!" 

Simon, for his part, excitedly reacted to Porsha's RHOA return on Instagram, writing, "Our family is gratified and appreciative of the [love]. [Black excellence]. [Happy Black History Month]."
