Project Runway Season 18 Eliminated Contestant From Episode 8 Speaks Out

Sheer fabrics proved to be the downfall for one Project Runway contestant.

By Hannah Fusaro

In episode 8 of Project Runway, the designers were tasked with using sheer fabrics to create a look that remains high fashion, even as it shows off more skin. They also had to balance that with making sure models of all body types felt comfortable with their design. But working with sheer fabric is definitely easier said than done — as one contestant soon found out.

"Seriously, no one gets how hard it is to work with these translucent fabrics," Christian Siriano lamented. "Well, actually Chelsey unfortunately does."

Christian sat down with Episode 8's eliminated designer Chelsey Carter in the Project Runway After Show to find out what went wrong during the challenge.

"The transparency of the struggle was real," she joked. "And I am better for it, is how I really feel, honestly. I tried something new. I never really worked with transparent fabrics. I gave it all I could in the amount of time I was provided. So here we are."

After observing the look, Chelsey admitted, "I still don't even hate it." And Christian agreed: "I know a few celeb girls who would pull off this look."

Ultimately, the downfall really seemed to be the pale blue color of the ensemble. "Imagine if this was black, the difference it would have made. It was a tough color. It's one of those bridesmaids colors that you can't get out of your head."
