The tech world is something everyone benefits from, but do you really know what goes into making your favorite website, app, product, etc? Chances are, it's one of those "you think you know but you have no idea" scenarios -- though that's about to change thanks to Start-Ups: Silicon Valley.
Randi Zuckerberg (yes, sister of Facebook bajillionaire Mark) is executive producer of the upcoming show that goes deep into the inner workings of some of the hottest up-and-coming start-ups and the entrepreneurs that are the brains behind them, and in an interview with Forbes, she says that a reality show on tech companies is just a natural progression of what's popular. "You're seeing that technology is becoming such a part of pop culture. You can't go anywhere without people talking about start-ups and hacking and entrepreneurs -- it's infiltrated mainstream media," Zuckerberg says.
Because of that, Silicon Valley became the location for the show, and Zuckerberg says she was brough to "make sure that Bravo could capture the real authentic Silicon Valley. This is kind of the first time that a reality show has peeked inside the insular doors of Silicon Valley, so Bravo really wanted to work with someone who was part of the community."
As for the show itself, Randi says that since watching someone code for hours on end might be a bit boring, it's mostly about "capturing the interpersonal dymanics that go on in companies. There is real drama in start-ups."
Moreso, Randi hopes the show will open the doors for women, who aren't all that present when it comes to entrepreneurship in Silicon Valley. "It's more important than ever to get girls excited about technology and entrepreneurship, and the only way you're going to do that is making technology cool in pop culture and showing women working at start-ups and making it a little glamorous along the way, too."
Start-Ups: Silicon Valley premieres on Monday, November 5 at 10pm!
