Richard Blais Kids Around on SproutTV

The Top Chef preps a kid-friendly dish on the children's show.

By Lauren Metz

Color Chica the Chicken stoked: freshly minted Top Chef All-Stars champ Richard Blais stopped by The Sunny Side Up Show last Friday to serve up his kid-friendly twist on a breakfast classic. The chef and father of two showed kids (and parents) how to make French toast lollipops, complete with cinnamon stick handles. In honor of Earth Day, Richard made his dish eco-friendly by using stale bread, and even added a healthy touch by cutting the sugar and instead using mixing cinnamon and vanilla.

Sure, Richard was a fierce contender in the Top Chef kitchen, but did he get the thumbs up from kids at home? If so, the Atlanta chef is already eager to return. "Thanks to @SproutTV for the inspiration today!" he tweeted. "Can't wait to come back!"

Want to tackle Richard's kid-approved breakfast? You'll need:

8 to 10 slices stale bread (recommended: thick-sliced Pullman brioche loaf)
4 eggs
1 cup milk
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon cinnamon (powdered or freshly grated)
4 tablespoons butter
Maple syrup
1 tablespoon honey, warmed in microwave (optional)
Vanilla beans (optional)
Whole cinnamon-stick branches (optional)
