Oops: Sanaa Lathan Forgets That Taraji P. Henson Was Never in a Best Man Film
But is Empire the reason the long awaited Best Man Wedding is getting held up?
Actress Sanaa Lathan appeared on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen to talk about her new show Shots Fired, but a fan called in to bring the conversation back to what everyone is really interested in: When’s the next Best Man movie happening? The potential for a third installment of the popular franchise has been in flux, particularly after director Malcom D. Lee told the Los Angeles Daily News in April 2016 that despite "desire" from the studio, cast, and himself, the film had yet to be shot.
“What I’d like to know, Sanaa, is what is the status of the Best Man Wedding?” the viewer demanded, causing Sanaa to grimace. When asked if the movie is ever coming, Sanaa responded, “I hope so, but if you think about it, Terrence [Howard] is on Empire I’ve been working, we’re all in...Taraji [P. Henson] is, you know, so busy.”
Wait, what? Sanaa catches herself for thinking Taraji P. Henson was ever in a Best Man film, and blames it on the free flowing drinks. The real issue is that Sanaa has got Empire on the brain, in which Taraji headlines, probably because the series has snapped up a lot of her co-stars. She goes on to mention Taye Diggs and Nia Long, who are also appearing on Empire. Nia is playing recurring character Giuliana for Season 3, and Taye has been playing City Councilman Angelo Dubois since 2016. “They have a lot of the cast," Sanaa said.
“And god knows when they wrap Empire, the last thing everybody wants to do is start making a movie,” Andy Cohen added.
“Yeah, it’s hard to get all of us together,” Sanaa answered, “Long story short.”
An even shorter version of this story would be, “Empire killed it.”
