Caroline Stanbury Had a Surprising Reaction to Sophie Stanbury's Divorce From Her Brother

Sophie Stanbury shocked Ladies of London fans when she revealed that she was going through a divorce during this season's premiere. But if that wasn't difficult enough to deal with, Sophie is divorcing Alex Stanbury, the brother of her good friend and castmate Caroline Stanbury. 

But apparently Sophie didn't have to worry about how the end of her relationship might impact her friendship with Caroline. "I was fine with it, surprisingly," Caroline recently told PEOPLE. "I actually think they’re two great people but they’re probably better off apart." 

However, there is one thing about the divorce that bothered Caroline. "I think I wasn’t so fine with the way Sophie dealt with it … I don’t know if she felt she had something to prove to everyone," Caroline explained. "But I would never let it impact my relationship with Sophie because I had a relationship before they were married, I have a relationship after their marriage. And at the end of the day, she’s still the mother [of] my brother’s children and she’s going to be in my life whatever. So I always have a certain level of respect and loyalty for Sophie as my family — even if she’s not in the family, she’s still part of the family."

Caroline said that the heated moment she shares with Sophie in the Ladies of London Season 3 supertease (clip above) where she says, "Now I know that I can't trust my family," is not related to their family drama. "That’s more related to the way Sophie’s been dealing with everything," Caroline told PEOPLE. "I think as you see in the promo, I get a lot stick from every single one of them. And the one person I wasn’t expecting to have a go at me was Sophie." 

Caroline said her relationship with Sophie did not come back from that so easily. "Not easily because you don’t build that trust back easily," she said. "We’re getting there, but it’s not what it was [at the time]."
