Patricia Altschul's Former Butler Michael Kelcourse Returned to Southern Charm: All the Details
See what life is like for Michael today now that he's no longer living in Charleston and working for Patricia.
Southern Charm fans were reunited with a familiar face during Season 9, Episode 6 on Oct. 19. Who? None other than Patricia Altschul's former butler, Michael Kelcourse.
The martini-making expert famously worked for Patricia at her Charleston estate for 18 years before tragically suffering a spinal cord stroke in February 2021 and subsequently moving away. However, as Patricia revealed on the latest iteration of Southern Charm, distance has only made the heart grow fonder for her and her son, Whitney Sudler-Smith.

Patricia's Former Butler Michael Kelcourse Makes a Cameo on Southern Charm Season 9
With some assistance from Whitney, Patricia FaceTimed Michael on Southern Charm. Sharing an update on his current condition, he said he was "doing great" and had "no complaints." What's more, Michael even shared a few complimentary words for Patricia, who was sporting a designer sweater with cats on it. "Is that Dolce and Gabbana you're wearing? It's beautiful," he said. "I think it's great!"
Patricia joked that she "put on a little weight, so the cats get fatter and fatter," but Michael simply replied, "You look fabulous as always."
Where Patricia's Former Butler Michael Kelcourse Lives Today
In a confessional, Patricia provided an update on what Michael's life looks like today now that he's no longer living in Charleston. "Michael is living in assisted care in Sarasota, Florida," she said. "But we talk all the time and keep in touch. And I miss him every day. He really is like a member of the family."
Over the years, we've learned more details on Michael's recovery and life in Sarasota with updates here and here.
Details on Michael Kelcourse's Health Scare
While Patricia and Whitney were catching up with Michael, he revealed that their call happened to fall on "the second anniversary of [his] incident," aka the day he suffered from an acute spinal cord infarction, which is often called a spinal cord stroke.
"Well, you're doing incredibly well," Patricia told him. "You got a great attitude."
Michael assured her and Whitney, "I couldn't have done it without you folks. You gave me such help and were just such an inspiration."
Looking back on the incident in a confessional, Patricia said, "Life is uncertain. I mean, Michael and I had gone out the night before. I mean, seemingly everything was fine and the next morning, he had his stroke. You have to savor ever moment every day because you never know when life is going to change."
Patricia, Whitney, and Michael eventually said their goodbyes (that is, after he talked the mother-son duo through his step-by-step process of making a martini!) but not without a few tears on Patricia's behalf.
