Steve Harvey Had to Hire 24-Hour Armed Security After His Miss Universe Flub
The talk show host confirmed that things got real dangerous for him after the infamous 2015 gaffe.
The universe may never forget the time that Steve Harvey accidentally crowned Miss Colombia, Ariadna Gutiérrez, the winner of the 2015 Miss Universe competition instead of Miss Philippines, Pia Wurtzbach. And no one was willing to let him off the hook for the mistake. The talk show host confirms that the situation got quite dangerous for him following the televised flub. Actually, it remains scary to this day.
“I live on a dead-end street — and it got real when things started coming over the gate. Empty boxes with bows and pictures of bombs,” he told Cigar Aficionado, via Us Weekly. "And these with death threats on social media that would pop up from fake IP addresses. I wound up with 24-hour armed security at my house. I have two armed guards there full-time to this day.”
In fact, things remain tense between the comedian and the country of Colombia in the wake of the mistake. “In the Philippines, they love me — but I can’t go to Colombia,” he said. "The next morning, there was this massive crowd, all around my car outside the hotel—all these Colombians giving me hell. My Twitter and Instagram blew up and I got called every name in the book. I got cussed out in Spanish so bad that I know profanity in Spanish now.”
Steve recently came to Warren Beatty's defense after the legendary actor declared La La Land the Best Picture winner at this year's Oscars when, in fact, Moonlight, had won.
