Taylor Swift Kills Her Persona (and Comes For Her Foes) On Her Dark New Single
Swifties, your girl is back — and she's pretty mad.
Um, did you guys hear the old Taylor Swift is dead? And the new one really enjoys noir-themed videos and lyrics about being a vengeful zombie. Just as the clock struck midnight on Friday (August 25), Swift dropped her new single, "Look What You Made Me Do," off her November album release reputation, and it's definitely filled with enough word venom (um, see what we did there) to have her fans and enemies trying to figure out just which one of her foes (Katy Perry? Calvin Harris? Kim and Kanye? So many adversaries, so little time), she might be spewing it to.
There are hints that point to any one of those folks, or heck maybe all of them. That karma line sounds like it might be referencing Perry's own "Swish Swish," which may be about her feud with Swift (what a tangled web)... But, let's face it, Swift is likely taking down Kardashian and West in the wake of that now infamous Snapchat/phone call leak from last summer (recapped here and you can hear more from Kardashian above). Heck, she even says, "The old Taylor can't come to the phone right now. Why? 'Cause she's dead."
So, KimYe, if you have plans of calling and congratulating your girl on her new music, she won't be on the other end of the line.
It's bound to be a big weekend for Swift, who will next release the visual for the track during Sunday's VMAs— you know, the one being hosted by Perry of all people. Can't wait until then? She dropped a sneak peek of the glossy, glam and slightly-darker video on Instagram.
