Teddi Mellencamp Arroyave Shares Update Following Recent Melanoma Scare
The RHOBH alum thanked fans for all the love and support they showed ahead of her biopsy.
Teddi Mellencamp Arroyave is feeling grateful.
The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills alum was flooded with well-wishes this week after she revealed her latest melanoma scare. Teddi shared the news in an emotional Instagram video on May 25, saying she discovered another spot on her back and would undergo a biopsy to rule out cancer.
“You’d think after 11 melanomas, I’d be used to this,” she wrote. “Unfortunately, you cannot control anxiety. And last night I had the worst panic attack. I am trying my best this morning to push through it, but it is not easy. Prayer, mediation, movement— all the usual things I lean on to combat the anxiety— I am hoping they at least can allow me to get through the day.”
She continued: “Please know, if you’re suffering from anything— be it anxiety, melanoma, or anything else that causes you to spiral— you are not alone. And it’s okay to express your feelings. If you have any tips for dealing with anxiety or just want to express how you’re managing today, please share below. We are better together.”
A day after sharing the news, Teddi returned to Instagram to announce she was cancer-free. She said her doctors performed the biopsy on short notice and pushed to receive the results as soon as possible. Hours after the procedure, Teddi was informed that the aforementioned spot was benign.
“I woke up in a completely different mindset today,” she said in a May 26 Instagram Story. “And, first and foremost, I want to thank you so much. Reading all your supportive messages — how kind, empathetic, and also your tips on anxiety, it really, truly helped me yesterday. So I just want to say thank you. I got excellent news. This most recent spot came back benign… I already cried about that. I am just so grateful that I’m not on my 12th melanoma, as of now.”
How Teddi Manages Her Anxiety
Teddi also took some time to address her struggles with anxiety and how she copes with the aftermath of a panic attack. She said she likes to plan some kind of outdoor activity that will recenter her mind and make her feel her best.
“I have energy, I feel happy, but I still feel tired,” she said. “So today, I made a plan — in advance — to drop my kids at school and go on a hike with a friend, because I know that will hold me accountable to moving my body but not push myself too hard.”
In 2022, Teddi announced she had been diagnosed with skin cancer and would undergo surgery to remove 11 melanomas and three lymph nodes from her back. The procedure was a success, as the mother-of-two went on to confirm she was officially cancer-free.
Teddi Is Urging Others to Get Skin Cancer Screenings
Teddi is now using her platform to raise awareness about the disease and recently starred in the Melanoma Research Foundation’s Get Naked Campaign.
“When I was first diagnosed with melanoma, I thought, ‘Why me?’” she wrote on Instagram this month. “But now I’m glad it was me, because I get to use my voice and platform to partner with [the Melanoma Research Foundation] and encourage all of you to [Get Naked] and get your skin checked. Hearing from so many already about making their appointments makes my heart full; and I would love to hear from many more in the future. Who’s gonna make time for their checkup this month?”
