We thought our jaws couldn't drop any lower than after Danielle Staub told Melissa Gorga that Teresa Giudice encouraged her to pull Margaret Josephs' ponytail in Season 10 of The Real Housewives of New Jersey. But they dropped all the way down to the floor — and we're still picking them up, by the way — after we watched Teresa's reaction to finding out that Danielle had spilled this piping hot tea. You can relive the RHONJ madness, above.
After Melissa relayed to Teresa what Danielle had told her during the RHONJ Season 10 finale, Teresa briefly tried to explain herself. "I feel bad. I hope they don't use this," Teresa said, referring to the production team using the footage of the revelation in the episode.
"They are gonna use it," Melissa said in response, before we got a glimpse of all of the cameras filming the shocking RHONJ moment.
Teresa then flipped off the cameras, threw her drink, and stormed off, clearing a bunch of cups off a table as she made her exit. "She's pissed at the producers," Melissa could be heard saying as Teresa walked away.
The breaking of the fourth wall in this way is something we have rarely seen over the course of the past 10 seasons of RHONJ. But Vice President of Current Production at Bravo, Pamela Gimenez, explained why it felt like the right way to show what was really going on as this season of RHONJ came to a close during the March 14 episode of The Daily Dish podcast.
"I think we needed to show the bigger picture in order for the message to be relayed correctly to Teresa. It was a tough call, but I think that Danielle was following this path where people weren't believing really anything that she was saying, and this was her moment to say, 'This is what truly happened,'" Gimenez said. "Again, it's telling everybody's point-of-view."
Learning that Teresa had played a part in the hair pull was just as shocking for the show's producers as it was for fans watching at home, according to Gimenez. "We did not know that that was happening," she said. "I mean, we were telling the story as we were being told the story, so it was very true to what was happening and what was happening on the field."
On the one hand, Gimenez agreed with The Daily Dish podcast co-host Erik J. Mac that breaking the fourth wall with Teresa helped to "hold her accountable" for her role in Margaret's hair pull. "But I don't think she thought it was that bad," Gimenez noted. "It was violent, and we don't condone violence, and I think that she didn't realize it would be that violent."
