The Countess Counsels Divorcing 'Teen Mom' Stars

LuAnn tells the young parents to put their babies first.

By Lauren Metz

Fans of MTV's Teen Mom 2 let out a collective gasp this week when news broke that Leah Messer and Corey Simms are headed for Splitsville. The seemingly happy couple – who are parents to twin girls Aliannah and Aleeah – said I do just six months ago, and LuAnn de Lesseps is giving them first-hand advice on divorcing in the media spotlight.

"Leah and Corey need to focus on raising their twins and getting their lives on track," the Real Housewives of New York City star writes in her weekly "What Would the Countess Do?" column for OK! Magazine. "Appearing on reality television should be secondary to working out their relationship issues."

LuAnn chose to keep the nitty gritty details of her divorce largely off-camera for the sake of her two teenage children, Victoria and Noel, but 18-year-old Leah is going a different route. She openly cried to a friend this week while reading her divorce papers, and yes, an MTV crew was only feet away.

"Whether or not the cameras are rolling, both of these teens have a huge responsibility on their shoulders," the Countess continues, referencing baby Ali's medical needs and the stress of raising twins at such a young age. "The best thing they can do is to work out their differences so that they can co-parent their babies."
