This Is the Craziest Rumor Elizabeth Hurley Has Ever Read About Herself
So, does it have anything to do with her tabloid-romance with Hugh Grant?
Elizabeth Hurley is a Hollywood legend. In fact, one might consider her acting royalty, which is probably why she plays a queen with such ease on the soapy E! series, The Royals. And with fame has come the fact that she's found herself in the gossip pages over the years. And despite her much-publicized romance with reformed cad Hugh Grant (they broke up in 2000, but remain BFFS — more on that in the clip above), the craziest rumor about herself actually has nothing to do with her former flame whatsoever.
"I remember it was a long time ago now, I remember there [were] headlines that I was renouncing the world and going into a convent. Oh yeah! That was an interesting one," she shared with The Daily Dish recently. "Ludicrous, obviously. [There are] ludicrous things almost every time you sit down for an interview with someone. They'll say, "So I hear you're X, X, X' and you're like, 'What? No, it's just made up.'"
Given how much confusion there can be about what's true and what's false, Elizabeth does appreciate that in the golden age of social media, celebrities can control their narratives.
"But everything changed so much because through social media, of course, people in the public eye actually have a voice for the first time instead of putting out press statements like we used to back in the day. You can actually say it now, anyone can say it," she said. "If someone has a verified account, you can assume that what they say is coming [from the person]. That's not to say we don't tell lies, but nevertheless, it is from the horse's mouth. That makes a massive difference, a huge difference. You hear someone's voice."
