Todd Tucker Says "We Must Have Honest Conversations with Our Children and Prepare Them"
Kandi Burruss's husband opened up about explaining police brutality to their son, Ace.
Like many parents around the world, Todd Tucker is currently trying to navigate difficult conversations about race and police brutality with his children. The Real Housewives of Atlanta cast member Kandi Burrus’ husband opened up about the discussion he recently had with their 4 year-old son, Ace.
In a June 9 post, Todd shared a photo of Ace wearing a police officer costume, writing, “I haven’t been very vocal lately, as my heart has been hurting. My son was a police officer for his career day last year. We were watching the news and he asked me, ‘the police are bad guys?’ with a puzzled look. He was so confused. And I’m still working on explaining to him the horrific acts of the police. We must have honest conversations with our children and prepare them.”
Todd’s comment section quickly filled up with supportive comments from parents, including RHOA friend Shamea Morton, who wrote, “Aaah man. That’s a tough one.”
Kandi has also recently opened up about having these conversations. During Bravo’s Instagram Live panel, Amplify Our Voices: An Open Dialogue on Being Black in America, she explained why she believes it’s important to teach children to aspire to become involved in politics.
“I love the fact that the younger generation is the one who has been out there, making the most noise with the protests and basically making the world come at attention,” she said in the video below. “Well, I would love to see more young people start getting involved in politics.”
