Tom Takes on Genetically Modified Organisms

"Someone's gotta wake up," Top Chef judge says.

Top Chef judge Tom Colicchio
If it's a foodie event in Vegas, chances are Tom Colicchio is near the epicenter. So as the annual Vegas Uncork'd kicked off this, there was the Top Chef judge hosting a party at his Craftsteak last night. Those lucky enough to score tickets to the sold out event got to enjoy live entertainment, fine wines, and a menu certainly more than Quickfire worthy.

But it wasn't all fun, games, and fantastic food -- Tom used his time at Vegas Uncork'd to address some serious food issues: genetically modified organisms. "Someone's gotta wake up and demand that GMOs are labeled so we know what we're eating," he told the Las Vegas Review Journal this week. "It's ridiculous in this country that GMOs are allowed to produce food, and they don't have to label it as a GMO."

So the next time you're thinking about grabbing something fast on the go, Tom has a message for you. "You almost have to assume if there's corn in anything, it's from GMO corn," he said. "Just stop eating fast foods. Stop eating highly processed foods. Eat whole food when you can."

However, the mood lightened (of course -- you keep it heavy in Vegas for long) when Tom tackled rumors that he's pushing for a Top Chef Broadway musical. "Maybe we could do a Cirque du Soleil show in Vegas build around Top Chef," he says. "How's that?"

What do you think? Is Top Chef Broadway material? State your case and battle it out.
