2017 Tony Nominations Announced — Will Another Musical Sweep Like Hamilton?
This year's nods are full of famous faces and a few surprises.
Get your jazz hands ready. The 2017 Tony nominations were announced Tuesday, and they packed a few surprises for Broadway fans.
Most notably, Natasha, Pierre and the Great Comet of 1812 led this year's nominations with 12 nods, followed by the revival of Hello, Dolly! with 10 nominations. One of the musicals that's been the biggest hit with audiences and critics alike this season, Dear Evan Hansen, scored the third most nominations this year with 9 nods.
Hamilton famously swept most of the musical categories last year, including Best Musical, three out of the four acting categories, Best Book of a Musical, and Best Direction. Will we see another show dominate this year?
Like most years, you'll find plenty of big Hollywood stars earning some nods for their performances on the Great White Way among this crop of Tony nominations, including Cate Blanchett, Danny DeVito, and Sally Field. This year's Tony Awards will also be hosted by an actor who has made a name for himself on stage and screen, Kevin Spacey. The ceremony will be broadcast live from Radio City Music Hall in New York City on Sunday, June 11.
