Hannah Ferrier and Jack Stirrup Had a Similar "Love Tap" Situation Off-Screen
The Below Deck Mediterranean crew reacts to Travis Michalzik's moment with Anastasia Surmava.
Travis Michalzik caused quite a stir in the latest episode of Below Deck Mediterranean when he suddenly gave Anastasia Surmava what he called a "love tap" on her face during the crew's night out. A debate subsequently broke out among the yachties over whether Travis' actions were harmless or harmful, which continued in the Below Deck Mediterranean Season 4 After Show, above.
Hannah Ferrier has always firmly taken the stance that it was not OK for Travis to behave that way toward Anastasia. "You've known this woman for three weeks, you don't know if she's comfortable. Also you don't know her past. You don't know what woman has been touched by a man like that, so doing that to her face can bring back s--t," she explained. "Anyway, to me, you're out with your crew, you're at dinner, it is not acceptable to physically touch another crew member in that way regardless."
The chief stew went on to share that she and Jack Stirrup got into a similar situation early on in the charter season. "Like, Jack slapped my ass within the first week, and I was like, 'No, that's not funny, that's not OK, do not touch me like that,'" she recalled, much to Captain Sandy Yawn's surprise. "And he tried to laugh it off, and I went, 'Laugh all you'd like, but just so you know, I'm not laughing. I'm not joking, and I don't want you to touch me like that.' He never did again, trust me."
Travis explained during the Below Deck Med After Show that he in no way intended to hurt Anastasia. "It wasn't malicious; it was just me being pissed and trying to have a laugh," he said. "We work really hard, so when we're out, I just want to try and bring everything up. From where I'm from, my group of friends, and my culture, people appreciate that."
As for Anastasia, she said in the Below Deck Med After Show that she was really just taken aback by the moment because she literally didn't see it coming. "If it's a cultural thing for you, it's just like I'm not used to that. I'm not used to that kind of roughhousing or whatever," she said. "So for me, it was just like a shock."
