Lisa Vanderpump on Vanderpump Rules Season 9: "It's Already, Like, Complicated"
The Vanderpump Dogs star also dishes on Lala Kent and Scheana Shay's baby girls, as well as James Kennedy and Raquel Leviss' engagement.
Bravo Digital’s Megan Segura and Erik J. Mac bring you exclusive interviews from Bravo HQ, featuring Bravolebs plus expert commentary and behind-the-scenes scoop straight from Bravo execs. New episodes are released every Saturday morning, wherever you get your podcasts.
Earlier this spring, it was confirmed that filming on the upcoming Season 9 of Vanderpump Rules would begin this May and would return with Lisa Vanderpump, Tom Schwartz, Tom Sandoval, Katie Maloney-Schwartz, Ariana Maddix, Scheana Shay, Lala Kent, James Kennedy, and Raquel Leviss.
Of course, life has changed a lot for the SUR squad since we last saw them in Season 8, especially for Lala and Scheana, who each welcomed their first child this spring. Lisa opened up about what it's been like seeing some members of the Vanderpump Rules crew become parents recently during an interview in the June 5 episode of The Daily Dish podcast, which you can listen to, below. "Well, I did start to get an inkling that they were saying yeah, this is time… Have you ever met any group of friends that say, 'Oh, let's have a baby? Let's do it together.' Like, no, when does that happen? But that group is so closely entwined," Lisa said, adding that Scheana and Lala "had their babies like six weeks apart."
Lisa revealed that she has already gotten the chance to meet Lala's daughter, Ocean, who was born in March, and Scheana's daughter, Summer, who was born in April.
Aside from these new additions to the Vanderpump Rules family, Lisa also teased what else we can expect from the cast in the upcoming new season. "Some might be more mature, but definitely you feel that they've been locked up for a year, that's for sure," she said. "It's already, like, complicated, and it's all kicking off. And I'm like, oh, my god, I missed them all so much, but wow, yeah, it's a lot."
James and Raquel have also had some major news to share recently. The couple confirmed their engagement last month. "Well, I knew. I had an inkling, right. Because if you saw on Overserved, James talks about that with Jim Jefferies," Lisa said of the DJ popping the question to Raquel. "So I had an inkling, but I didn't know exactly when it was going to be. And then I was alerted the night before of what they were up to. But boy, did they go all out."
Lisa opened up more about her current relationship with James, sharing that the two were often in touch during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. "James was one of the people that I had more contact with through COVID than [anyone] because he always worries me," Lisa shared, noting that she has "always felt very maternal towards James."
She added that, so far, filming this season of Vanderpump Rules has been "kind of interesting." "Nobody does it like these kids. And they live their lives like that on-screen and off-screen," Lisa said of the Vanderpump Rules cast. "Everything's, like, they make big statements, there's big emotions, it's complicated dynamics. It's just a group of people that are very vocal and sometimes volatile."
If you can't wait to get your LVP fix (and who can, really?) you can see her in the new series Vanderpump Dogs streaming June 9 only on Peacock. "It's got this real feel-good factor. I think people will love it. I think it's actually the kind of show that you could just watch all of [the episodes] straight away. Because if you love dogs, it is so poignant and [has that] feel-good factor. It's also very interesting how the rescue works. There's a lot that goes on behind the scenes, but this is more just about the connection with the dogs and the people and the wonderful stories," Lisa gave The Daily Dish podcast a sneak peek of Vanderpump Dogs. "People have loved the show. Everybody I know that's seen it has absolutely fallen in love with it. And I think it's a show you can watch with kids as well, you know, because it's got this feel-good factor. And it also teaches them about the essence of rescue and how important it is."
