Stassi Schroeder on Her Relationship with Ex Patrick Meagher: "I Couldn't See It for What It Was"
The Vanderpump Rules event planner sounds off on watching past moments with her former boyfriend.
Stassi Schroeder is no stranger to having her relationships play out on TV. She watched her relationship with Jax Taylor go through ups and downs on Season 1 of Vanderpump Rules (and a little bit into Season 2), and now in Season 6, she is currently seeing on-again, off-again boyfriend Patrick Meagher, with whom she has since broken up. Watching the dynamics of their relationship play back has been eye-opening, Stassi recently said.
“If I didn’t see that on TV, I would remember my relationship very differently,” Stassi admitted on The Daily Dish podcast. “When you’re so deep in something — and you know, we were together on and off for four years, it’s a really long time — I couldn’t see it for what it was. Watching back is crazy. Lisa [Vanderpump] always tells us this: one of the great things about reality TV is it’s like a mirror.”
Stassi pointed to her Season 6 birthday party as one of the times when she should have recognized something was wrong with their relationship. “How did I not get mad that he didn’t dress up?” she asked. “And when he told Kristen [Doute] and Katie [Maloney-Schwartz] that I could bang other people just as long as it wasn’t an emotional relationship? Uh, wish he told me that to my face; I would have been hooking up with dudes for four years!” Stassi clarified that she didn’t believe Patrick was being honest when he said that and that he tried too hard to be cool when the cameras were around. She also teased an upcoming "embarrassing" moment from next week's Vanderpump Rules season finale when Patrick meets Lisa (clip below). "I can’t even string a sentence together. Patrick looks like the biggest douche," she said. "I don’t remember seeing him say all that stuff about Lisa’s butt.”
Hindsight is 20/20, of course, and if you’ve been following Stassi on social media lately, you may have spotted her looking cozy and adorable with a new guy. The event planner is in a new relationship with Beau Clark and they made things official this past Valentine's Day. She opened up to The Daily Dish podcast about how the two initially got together.
“Kristen and Katie had been trying to set us up during Patrick and [my] first breakup two years and we didn’t meet; it just didn’t work. And then at the end of August, Kristen messaged me and everyone was watching the fight at her apartment and I was like, ‘I don’t like sports. F--- no.’ And she’s like, ‘Beau’s here. Seriously, Stassi, come.’ … She lit a fire under my ass and forced me to come and we finally met. We took it slow for six months because I wanted to be single until I was 30 … but it just became something that was inevitable, like obviously we’re not going to be with anyone else now; it just got too intense." The lesson here, according to Stassi, is “being set up by your best friends, that works."
Stassi elaborated more on their romance: “It’s so weird because I’m like, is this what a relationship is supposed to be like, where someone’s just nice to you all the time? I realized I’ve never been in a healthy relationship ever yet. This is my first one. It kind of makes me sad, like, wow, what was I doing wrong? Now I can really appreciate how wonderful this is and how fun and easy it is. I can be happy all the time.”
When asked what makes this relationship different than her past relationships, she replied, “I feel really accepted, like I can 100 percent be myself and still feel loved. He’s just so nice to me, he’s so caring and so laid-back and just wants to do good by me.”
Tom Sandoval echoed Stassi's sentiments and sung Beau's praises when he appeared on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen on Monday. "He's been so cool ... He's so into everything that she's doing. If there's a party, he's there, and he's happy. He's great. He's awesome."
