Which Vanderpump Rules Cast Member Was Homeless at One Point?

"This guy took my money and just robbed me pretty much," the SURver revealed.

By Hannah Fusaro

The road to success in Hollywood is often paved with many bumps along the way, something the cast of Vanderpump Rules knows all too well. Each cast member has a unique story of how he or she came to L.A. and what they were up to before working at SUR. On The Daily Dish podcast, one Vanderpump Rules friend dropped a bombshell about his life before SUR. Or rather — his dad did.

Tom Sandoval’s dad, Tony Sandoval, who joined him and Tom Schwartz for the podcast interview, let us in on a little-known fact about his son's past: “He was homeless.”

Wait, what? Sandoval confirmed the rumor was true; before moving to L.A., he lived in New York City, where he was modeling and going to five castings a day — and he found himself in a precarious situation.

“I was homeless at a time,” the SUR bartender revealed. “Me and my girlfriend broke up at the time and then I went to get a place. This guy took my money and just robbed me pretty much. So it was like, my money! That’s all I had for my apartment.” He revealed that he ended up paying for two apartments and never got the keys to either.

Ever the optimist, Sandoval said the experience “added character.” “I worked out all day long, every day. Showered at the gym. You know when you leave your bags behind the hotel desk? I would do that and be like, ‘Oh, I need to go grab something out of my bag,’ and go back there and just change. [I'd] get my castings at Starbucks and then go do my castings and go to the gym for three hours and go out.”

“Are you able to romanticize it in hindsight?” Tom’s bestie, Schwartz, asked him.

“It was awesome. Dude, I was so incredibly strong,” Sandoval recalled, pointing out that all that time spent in the gym resulted in a sweet eight-pack.

The story certainly puts Sandoval’s longtime L.A. apartment woes (such as the fact that he and Ariana Madix can’t run the air conditioner and the microwave at the same time) in perspective. And it makes their plans to buy a home together (more on that in the video below) all the more impressive.
