What Prompted Lizzie Rovsek to Get Sexy for Her Swimwear Line?

If you find yourself with any last minute swimsuit needs this summer, you might want to see what Lizzie Rovsek has been up to. Since launching Sun Kitten Swimwear in 2010, The Real Housewives of Orange County pal has evolved the brand into a staple for bathing beauties everywhere. It's even been worn by contestants on the Miss USA telecast and, recently, was part of a collaboration with RHOC alum Gretchen RossiFresh off showing her latest designs at Miami Swim Week, Lizzie hopped on the phone with The Daily Dish to chat about watching the line become a household name. "Oh my god! It's crazy," she said. "I've just been working my little butt off and to see this happening, it's just such a good feeling. It's like seeing your baby go to college. I work really, really, really hard and I love my company. It's like dreams are coming true kind of thing, but I know it's because of a lot of hard work. And I have a strong relationship with God. I pray a lot and I think when you're on the right path to what you're supposed to be doing in life, doors kind of open up a little bit easier."

How to Watch

Lizzie started the line to fill a void she saw in bridal-themed swimwear. From there she focused on other special occasion looks and evolved the brand into the one shoppers know today. "I focused a great deal of time on my patterns and construction of underwire and lifts and have that sexy suit that fits women that maybe want a little more support," she explained. "Or they want a sexy suit that can show off their body, but can take care of the things as a woman you want to be taken care of. It's a functional sexy suit."

Lizzie recently showed off how wearable and sultry the line is when she posed in one of her 2017 designs.

"The only time I ever really modeled the line was when I first launched because I designed the line when I was pregnant and one of the goals was, 'I'm gonna lose this baby weight and I'm going to be one of the models to launch Sun Kitten swimwear'; that was like in 2011," she said. "I really just focused on making this a serious brand. And [I] focused on the models and the suits and everything. And this year, since being on the show, everybody always writes in and goes, 'You should model your own stuff. How come you don't model your own stuff? We want to see you; you're a real woman. You've got the curves.' So I said, 'OK, I'll model a couple ones.' One of the "really sexy" suits she modeled is called the "the Fonda," and its name is a nod to some of the original Hollywood glamour girls. "I named all of the suits after iconic Hollywood starlets. [It has a] front zipper, razor back; it's super sporty. It's like that old body glove suit," she explained. "It's fun to get out and do that."

But the sexy doesn't end there. "My absolute favorite piece that I've ever made is the Naked Goddess," she said. "It's a nude one-piece and the back is a corset strap. It's a one-piece, but it's really high cut in the leg and it's completely nude. Not see-thru nude but nude fabric, and it's just so sexy. Every time I wear it, I get stopped. I love wearing it. I feel sexy in it. Everyone who puts it on loves it too and now we do it a couple different colors."
