What Was Katie Maloney Really Thinking During Tom Schwartz's Proposal?
The #PumpRules bride-to-be reveals all the details about the big event.
It was the moment Katie Maloney had definitely been waiting for when Tom Schwartzfinally popped the question with that incredible ring. And thankfully, it was all captured on video (and Vanderpump Rules). "Oh my gosh! I'm excited to watch our engagement because I was a little distracted when it was happening," Katie told The Daily Dish about the summer proposal. "I feel like this is going to be our best season. I feel happier than I have been and not just because of the engagement, just with my relationships with everybody."
While the proposal looked pretty magical, Katie revealed that the hours leading up to Schwartz asking her to spend the rest of her life with him weren't exactly all rainbows and butterflies. "It's funny because, obviously, I didn't know it was coming, and I was in an awful mood [and] was kind of snapping at him. And he was not paying attention to me," she recalled. "And then later that night, when it happened, I was just like, 'Oh my God.' I think that was one of the first things I said after I said 'Yes.' At first I kept saying, 'Are you serious? Are you joking?' And then I said, 'Yes.' And then I said, 'Oh my God...' It was kind of almost out of body."
Meanwhile, Tom was dealing with some nerves. "I was nervous. I mean, I don't think I was as nervous as I maybe come off. I mean, I'm kind of a fidgety person by nature. My legs were just shaking," Tom said. Katie went on to add that his behavior wasn't just because he was about to pop the question. "I think when he says, 'I can't breathe' [it] was because he just ate so much food," she explained. "I didn't notice his behavior. He was just being just kind of like his normal fidgety self."
There were many unique aspects to the proposal, including a faux proposal by a set of actors Schwartz hired to take Katie off the scent of his actual proposal, nothing could really top the illuminated box that encased the ring. "It made the diamond really dance. The light just danced off the diamond. I got to give all the credit to [jewelry designer] Kyle Chan," Tom said. "He got the box for me. And we discussed doing different gels [over the box's LED light]. We decided to just go with the standard LED light because it really sort of made the diamond look the best."
But don't expect wedding invitations to get sent out anytime soon. Katie hasn't really put much work into planning yet. "It's not going yet! I 'm enjoying this fiance-ship that we have. I mean, obviously, I want to get on that... But I don't feel the pressure to rush it," she said. "I mean theoretically I've been planning my wedding since I was 12, so I know a lot of things in my head. [But] as far as setting dates and actually putting it in motion, no I haven't."
Still, there are some details she has ideas about. "I thought about the dress," Katie revealed. "I thought about different locations. I mean, I've thought about all of it, but haven't actually started making those phone calls or doing all of that. And I'm not ready to try on wedding dresses yet. I've got to spend a little more time in the gym."
Hankering for more scoop on the Maloney/Schwartz wedding? The duo appeared on Watch What Happens Live on Monday, the same night the proposal aired, where they opened up a bit more about what's next.
