We Finally Learned Something About Erika Girardi's Mysterious Son

Erika Girardi lives her life out loud — but there is one aspect of her life she's kept a little bit of a mystery, and that's her role of being a mom. The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills singer has an adult son, Tommy, who works in law enforcement. And now she's opening up a bit more about him and what it's like to have a child work in such a dangerous field.

"I'm very proud of my son being in law enrforcement, but obviously it can get a little nerve racking," she told The Daily Dish about her child from her first marriage (she married second husband, Thomas Girardi, in 1999). "It's a dangerous profession. I've known my son was going to be in law enforcement from the time he could walk and talk. That's all he's ever wanted and that's kind of your role as a parent is to honor who your children really are."

As for what he does when he's not working, well Erika doesn't meddle too much in her son's personal life. "I don't have any requirements for my son, who he dates, because he's an adult. He has good judgment and he has a great head on his shoulders," she said. "So whoever he chooses to date, I'm sure they're lovely. I'm not going to run his life. He has to run his own, but I think he's doing a great job."

Before marrying Thomas, Erika raised her son as a single mom. She says seeing the man he grew up to be made all of the hard work worth it. "Single moms have it tough. It's hard. It's exhaustive, but at the same time it's very rewarding," she said. "You know especially now that he's older and he's doing so well. I think that really makes the struggle worth it."
