Captain Sandy: "Everybody Is Replaceable, Even Me"

The Below Deck Crew react to Lexi Wilson being let go and Sandy Yawn reveals exactly what would have made her let Chef Mat go too.

Captain Sandy Yawn appeared to be taken aback when she heard that Mathew Shea had planned on giving her an ultimatum about his place in the Below Deck Mediterranean crew in the September 20 episode of the show.

And let's just say the Below Deck Med boss was none too pleased to hear that news. "I don't want to be ever given an ultimatum — ever. And if you give me an ultimatum, you can pack your f--king s--t and walk off the boat," Captain Sandy told the chef in the episode. "That's how I feel, because I will never be given that ultimatum."

In the Below Deck Mediterranean After Show, Mat recalled declaring that ultimatum the night before. However, he said that he never actually planned on leaving the crew. "When I woke up, I knew I wouldn't do that," he said in the above clip exclusive to Bravo Insider members, citing Captain Sandy as the reason why he wouldn't actually have exited the boat.

Mat did ultimately stay as part of the Below Deck Med crew. But if this charter season had taken place under normal circumstances and not during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, where the protocols that have been put in place have made it more difficult to bring new crew members on, Mat may not have been given the choice to stay on the yacht this time around, according to Captain Sandy.

"Everybody's replaceable, even me. To give someone an ultimatum is really signing your departure card," she explained in the Below Deck Med After Show. "If I wasn't in a pandemic, Mathew gives me that ultimatum, that would've been his exit off the boat because in a real charter world, I could have a chef like that."
