The fashion gurus have connections dating back to the '90s in New York City.

They have more in common than just an incredible sense of style. Fashion designer Isaac Mizrahi joined Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen on Wednesday night and dished on why he’s “so excited” and “can’t wait” to watch newcomer Jenna Lyons in the new season of The Real Housewives Of New York City.

“I’m a huge supporter of hers,” Mizrahi said. “I love any lesbian appearing on any show of any kind. She’s representin’, honey! Representing the community.”

Before coming out as a queer woman, Lyons was married to artist Vincent Mazeau, who is the father of her son, Beckett. In the First Look of Season 14, Lyons told the other ‘Wives she was outed by the media, and didn’t come out on her own as being gay.

The Parsons Connection Between Lyons and Mizrahi

Mizrahi began producing women’s clothing while taking evening classes at the famous Parsons School of Design when he was only 15 years old, according to Medium. Jenna Lyons is also a Parsons alum, joining J. Crew after graduating in 1990. Lyons admitted in an interview she was a fan of Mizrahi even back then.

“When I went to Parsons, the critics were Donna Karan, Isaac Mizrahi, Marc Jacobs, and Calvin Klein,” Lyons said in an interview with Fashion Week Daily. “It was really at the height of American fashion. It was exhilarating and intimidating and so inspiring.”

Lyons also told Variety her favorite film that takes place in the fashion world is Unzipped. The 1995 documentary follows Mizrahi, after he received a negative review for his Spring 1994 collection.

“I had the honor and pleasure of meeting Isaac Mizrahi on several occasions, and am somewhat close to his orbit through Parsons,” Lyons told Variety. “Watching him share the behind-the-scenes of his life and friends and humor and approach to fashion was magic. It made me fall in love with him.”

Lyons has bumped into Mizrahi a few times while out and about in New York City as well.

“I have serious memories of leaving Nell’s [nightclub] at 3 a.m. and trotting over to Florent for a 3 a.m. snack,” she told The Regular. “There would be Marc Jacobs and Isaac Mizrahi in the corner. I would see Catherine Deneuve and Calvin Klein too. It was the most exciting time for me in New York. There was an incredible life and fire that existed when I first arrived in 1987.”

Mizrahi said on WWHL that as a designer, he’s also run into Lyons during her 26-year career at J.Crew, where she served as its president and executive creative director.

Watch Lyons, Sai De Silva, Ubah Hassan, Erin Lichy, Jessel Tank and Brynn Whitfield when Season 14 of The Real Housewives of New York City premieres Sunday, July 16 at 9/8c on Bravo, with episodes streaming the next day on Peacock.
