Is IHOP Changing Its Name? A Cryptic Tweet Is Raising Eyebrows

IHOP is being very dodgy on Twitter indeed.

By Alesandra Dubin

IHOP, are you messing with our emotions, or is this the real deal?

The pancake restaurant chain tweeted on June 6 that, after 60 years in business, it would change its name: "For 60 pancakin’ years, we’ve been IHOP. Now, we’re flippin’ our name to IHOb. Find out what it could b on 6.11.18. #IHOb." A little animation of what the new logo could look like accompanied the tweet.

Naturally, thousands of Twitter followers engaged with the tweet — trying to figure out WHAT IT ALL MEANS. Which, of course, was the entire point of the brand's mysterious message.

"What could it b?" the brand teased along with a poll asking users to wager their guesses: biscuits, bacon, butternut squash, or barnacles. (Bacon jumped out ahead early.)

DiGiorno pizza's official Twitter account suggested a new tagline for IHOb, in the pattern of its own. IHOP retweeted:

So... what's the deal? So far, we don't really know. CNN tried to find cyber evidence, such as site domain registration breadcrumbs — but no dice. So we'll just have to hang tight until June 11 to find out, apparently — along with all the other amateur sleuths on Twitter trying to crack the code.

Just b cool, you guys. It's going to b OK.
