Mike Shouhed Opens Up About His 40th Birthday Diet Challenge

Here’s why the Shahs of Sunset pal feels like he can actually “change the world” — not just his own fitness — with this diet.

We saw exactly what went into stocking the bar for Mike Shouhed's 40th birthday bash, which was just about as low-key as you'd expect it to be. (Spoiler alert: Shahs never play it low-key. And they only drink top-shelf.) But in the months leading up to his milestone birthday, the Shahs of Sunset pal actually cut back on his alcohol consumption — and several other temptations — as part of the Shouhed Challenge.

Mike recently filled The Feast in on what that the 90-day challenge entailed. "So many people are uneducated about how to just be healthy," he told us in the video above. "Let me challenge these people just one step — 1 percent better."

By posting his challenge on Instagram, Mike hoped to inspire his followers to follow these steps: "Eat clean, meaning no fried foods, stay away from starchy foods. Drink more water. Sleep, and cut back on your alcohol. Because if I told people not to drink at all, they wouldn't even start." 

According to the feedback Mike's received, "It's helping! People are like, 'I'm getting to the gym, I'm doing my cardio, I'm working out. I'm not eating the fatty, fried foods that I used to eat.'" 

Then, Mike channeled his inner Teddi Mellencamp. "If I can hold someone accountable, then they'll hold me accountable, and we'll make the world a better place." One salad at a time!
