Watch the Trailer for Netflix's New Desserts-Only Food Show... And Drool Your Face Off
Netflix's Chef's Table series gets a sweet spinoff in April with Chef's Table: Pastry.
Netflix has emerged as a serious purveyor of food porn, thanks largely to three seasons of Chef's Table, a documentary shot with stunning detail by filmmaker David Gelb, who also brought us Jiro Dreams of Sushi. Now, the series is spinning off into dessert territory with Chef's Table: Pastry, which debuts on April 13.
“I love the show Planet Earth," Gelb revealed on a film panel last year. "I thought it was cool to apply that look to food. The food is beautiful and it's an art form so it should have the same kind of reverence in the way it’s captured.”
The Chef's Table: Pastry trailer provides a quick sugar high of exploding edible balloons, the chocolatiest of chocolate chip cookies, and a cavalcade of deep-fried sweets.
The story brings viewers to New York City, where pastry chefs Will Goldfarb and Christina Tosi dominate the scene — from his high end all-dessert tasting menu at his restaurant Room 4 Dessert, to her nearly-ubiquitous Milk Bar shops, home of the infamous crack pie. From there, you'll journey to Sicily to get a virtual lick of Corrado Assenza's otherworldly gelato and to Spain, where Jordi Roca anchors the finales to her family's Michelin-starred meals.
If you weren't craving sweets before watching this, heaven help you once you've seen it:
