Backlash Swirls as Video Resurfaces of Gordon Ramsay's "Uncomfortable" Interview With Sofia Vergara
Gordon Ramsay appeared alongside fellow guest Sofia Vergara on the The Tonight Show with Jay Leno in 2010.
Chef and fiery TV personality Gordon Ramsay is already making news in the first week of 2019, having announced that he's expecting his fifth baby after his wife's previous "devastating" miscarriage. He also finds himself the subject of chatter over a much less current piece of news: a nearly decade-old video clip.
In 2010, Ramsay was a guest on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. And he made a long series of suggestive remarks directed at fellow guest Sofia Vergara that may or may not have seemed acceptable at the time — but they’re striking people as even more inappropriate in the current #MeToo era.
First, Ramsay riffed off Vergara’s remark about “screaming,” to say that she only sounds like that, “in the bedroom." He followed with a remark aimed at the size of her breasts. And when the conversation shifted to some photographs from the Modern Family star’s recent vacation, showing her in a bikini and eating pizza, Ramsay quipped, "You seem like you're enjoying that. You had a whole wedge in your mouth at one time?"
He continued the sexually suggestive line of remarks, “You just pick it up and stick it in.”
In addition to insulting the Colombian dessert she brought into the show, he touched her thigh — an action she rejected.
The clip has recently resurfaced, with fans taking to Twitter to air their opinions.
Fans called it "uncomfortable."
One wrote, "@GordonRamsay you treated Sofia Vergara with utter disrespect. You sexually harassed her to the point where you actually touched her. She was making her disdain for you obvious. What the f--- is wrong with you? Never watching anything you do again."
