Fashion Anniversary

Rodger talks Barbies, NYC Fashion Week, failed anniversary gifts, and more.

By Rodger Berman

After the drama and ultimate success of the Fashion For Relief Haiti Benefit that you saw last week, I couldn’t believe we had an action packed ten more days still ahead of us. We were all exhausted already and Fashion Week hadn’t even swung into full force yet.

The next major event to tackle was Rachel’s QVC sale, which was being broadcast live from the Bryant Park tents. It’s really been Rachel’s dream to design, and the QVC line is our first foray into this world. The hard part, for Rachel, is the fact that she has to go live on national TV to sell the products. While everyone agrees that Rachel’s a natural in front of the camera, she gets very nervous prior to the shows and a little more stressed out than usual. Luckily, she really knocked it out of the park and the show went great. Now fashion week could really begin.

Brad and Rachel were very focused on getting the best Oscar dresses for their clients as Oscars are just around the corner. It’s important for them to be at the shows so they can snag the hottest looks before anyone else can. Styling is a full contact sport. I also love going to the shows, it’s like a five minute piece of theater with beautiful clothes on beautiful models – what can be so bad about that?

As you saw on tonight’s episode, February fashion week always falls on our anniversary and this year was no different. It kind of sucks that we can never really focus on “us” during that time, but at least I don’t have to worry about exotic locales to vacation to. Instead, I try and think of really good gift ideas. This year I think I nailed it with the Barbie. Mattel asked Rachel if they could make a Barbie in her likeness for a charity (Project Angel Food) fundraiser. After losing the bid (don’t ask long story) I begged them to make one for me if I donated the same amount as the winning bidder. Luckily they agreed and now Rachel has a Barbie that looks (and dresses) like her – definitely a dream come true for her.

I knew gift number two (lingerie) was way riskier and I’d say it didn’t go over very well. To this day, as I predicted, she hasn’t worn it. :(
