Before the Hibachi Room, Tanya Sam's House Had the Craziest Thing Ever in the Basement
The Real Housewives of Atlanta friend has a grill usually reserved for Japanese restaurants.
Tanya Sam burst onto The Real Housewives of Atlanta scene this season as a friend of Nene Leakes and immediately showed off her generous and giving hospitality to the group, entertaining them at her home, which has one of the most unique features ever: a Japanese hibachi room!
She gathered her new crew around her large dining table that's topped with a Japanese grill that heats up to 430 degrees, something you're used to seeing at Benihana, but never at someone's private residence — until now!
"It’s actually pretty amazing and it’s more useful than people think because you can find a lot of things to cook on a hibachi grill," Tanya told The Daily Dish Podcast. "When Paul bought this house about 10 years ago, the basement was half-finished, so there was this concept of the hibachi room. It wasn’t finished and then the rest of it was an interesting shooting practice range. He was single at the time so he thought, 'Oh my gosh the bachelor house of my dreams, sold!' And we actually took the shooting range out... and we finished the hibachi room. We put in a movie theater and a gym, there’s a bar, and we have a little dance floor area we call it."
Tanya revealed that she typically uses chefs from Katana Robata, a Japanese restaurant with locations in Atlanta and Los Angeles, for her home hibachi parties and has a few chefs on retainer. Sometimes, though, the mood will spontaneously strike and they'll fire it up themselves.
"It’s the best place in the world for a 3 A.M. Waffle House party," she said in the video above. "Drunk food on the hibachi grill is just amazing! Give me any excuse to host hibachi!"
