Calling Out Kenya's Lies
Cynthia has some rebuttals for some of Kenya's talk at the party.
I am so grateful to have celebrated my daughter Noelle's 13th birthday! Yes, I have a teenager now, and I know she is going to need me more than ever. These years are very important "growing years," and I am dedicated to making sure she blossoms into a beautiful, smart, kind, respectable young lady. I strive to be a mother that my daughter can look up to, and be proud of. There is never a moment in the day when Noelle is not on my mind, and in my heart. She is always with me, even when we are thousands of miles a part. I have achieved much success in my life, but the only thing that I am truly GREAT at is loving Noelle.
I love strong, powerful women! I always try to surround myself with smart, ambitious women because they empower me, and I can learn so much from them. Drama or not, I recognize, and respect that the ladies I work with are smart, confident, and all about their business. I have received a golden nugget from each of them, even when it may not have been coming from the kindest place! I love the irony of it all. You can empower people, and not even know that you are doing it. You never know where you may find inspiration, so always keep your eyes open because it may be hiding in some very "unlikely" places.
The LET YOUR SUCCESS FLOW party that I put together for NeNe was my sincere attempt to congratulate, and applaud her on her a job well done! I am inspired by her fearlessness to go out and conquer opportunities that even she could not image would be coming her way. She has astonished many with her soaring success, and just when people count her out, she always lands on her feet! Cheers to you!
It was Nene's idea to not make the party just about her own success, and to make it a celebration for all the successful women in our circle. I loved it! At least for one afternoon the girls would get all dolled up, sip champagne, and celebrate each other. The party was a huge success, the ladies were stunning and positive affirmation filled the air. However, there were a couple of bumps in the road:
Kenya telling Phaedra and Kandi that JET magazine asked her to be a judge at The Bailey Agency.
Cynthia -- that's the first lie. I invited Kenya to The Bailey Agency, and had I not she would have not been there, period. Out of the kindness of my heart I asked JET if they would mind if she joined us. While they weren't exactly jumping up and down about it, I got them to agree to let her come. Tip: Never tell a lie that you will definitely get caught in. Especially if the truth will eventually play out on national television.
Sidebar: No one has the authority to invite anyone to do anything at The Bailey Agency without my approval. EVERYTHING has to go through me first since it is my school.
Kenya telling Phaedra and Kandi that her security kicked Carlton (my assistant) out of The Bailey Agency.
Cynthia -- And that would be the second lie. The man at the school with Kenya approached Carlton, we all had words, and he was told to have a seat. That's exactly what he did. End of story.
Sidebar: I had no idea that guy was her bodyguard . I just assumed he was a family member who just came along with her for the car ride.
Extra sidebar: It was a bit disappointing to watch Kandi and Phaedra faces light up with so much joy when Kenya was berating me at their first lunch. Their facial expressions were irreplaceable and unforgettable.
I adore Vanessa Williams, we actually have many friends in common. I called her to ask for advice and help with my pageant. She was so gracious, positive, and excited to assist me in any way she could. Her love and support wer very validating, and meant the world to me! It was such an honor to get personal counsel from the first African American woman to be crowned Miss America. I am inspired by her strength, talent, kindness, and generosity. Much continued success to you and your amazing career. You are the queens of queens! Sidebar: I am still looking forward to lunch with you the next time I'm in New York City.
