Recap: Porsha's Pinata Foul

Ep 19: Sure a lot happened, but really all you need to see is Porsha knocking over a cake with a pinata.

By Andrew Herrmann

I'm not sure what was a bigger surprise this week -- that Phaedra's birthday pinata was filled with condoms or that Peter and Gregg got into a fight. Or maybe the fact that Apollo thinks everyone cheats. Or when Porsha knocks over Phaedra's birthday cake with said pinata. Basically it was an episode full of shocks and surprises.

How to Watch

Watch The Real Housewives of Atlanta on Peacock and the Bravo App.

We pick up with Phaedra walking in on the Kenya and Apollo conversation, which goes about as well as you'd think it would. The scene was more tense when then Andy announces they have a special guest coming out at a reunion, but just before it hit the fan, the rest of the girls rolled in and Phaedra, in an very wise move, saw herself out.

When Apollo followed her out only to leave her at the room (without a key!) and return to the party, I'm fairly certain everyone shouted a resounding "Nooo!" at their TV screen. He'll certainly be paying for that one for the foreseeable future.

The next day started off promising, as Miss Lawrence frolicked Sade-style in a ravishing red caftan:

And Apollo managed to make a move in the right direction by making an effort with Phaedra and planning her a birthday party. Later we see he has a nice surprise party laid out for her, complete with a donkey pinata. And thus we arrive at my favorite moment of the episode, and possibly the entire Mexico trip -- Porsha knocking over the birthday cake. How you ask? Well Porsha does not mess around when it comes to pinata bashing and seriously whacked that thing hard enough to both expose the "treats" within and also swing right into the beautiful, elaborate cake that was evidently not placed far enough away. It was just amazing:

Luckily some cake was salvageable, if a bit mangled, and it didn't keep anyone from getting turned up for the celebrations.

Oh and did we mention the pinata was full of condoms? Well, it was. Because... honestly who can say. Humor?

The next day there was a twerking interlude, because this trend doesn't seem to want to go away any time soon.

It was this evening however when everything went off the rails. Kenya decided to recreate the Pillow Talk game (because that ended so well the first time?) and it turned into a confrontation between NeNe and Porsha/Todd/Kandi over what seemed to not be that big a deal -- a comment over older men and whether NeNe still has her period. But then it became even worse once the subject of cheating came up. Miss Lawrence declared that he believes all men have a tendency to stray, which then turned into a rant from Apollo about how cheating happens, and that you should accept it and make sure to use protection. It was odd, there were comparisons to having Geico insurance, and I didn't quite follow all of it so watch for yourself:

After that Kenya dismissed the gentleman so the women could chat, which you know is not going to end well. And it didn't! Kenya brought up the Apollo situation, Phaedra explained her side of things and how she almost slapped Kenya when she saw her with Apollo, and after some shouting the two agreed to be cordial but not really like or trust one another. So basically exactly where they were before.

Over in the men's corner, you'd think things would be fun and cool like they always are with the guys...but you'd be wrong! Gregg had been holding onto some bad blood over the masquerade ball drama and I guess he thought why not add one more confrontation to the day. But like Kandi when the girls all came in to find them shouting at one another, I was not used to seeing Gregg upset and did not like it one bit. Gregg is supposed to be our source of jovial joy and good will!

And if that wasn't bad enough NeNe then went into protection mode and called out Peter for being to involved in the ladies' business and straight up called him a bitch.

I'll let Kandi's face speak for all of us:

Next week it looks NeNe and Cynthia's BFF status may be in serious trouble...
