Among the many things that Kandi Burruss is known for, being refreshingly down-to-earth is at the top of the list. The Real Housewives of Atlanta mogul is always an open book when it comes to everything from the current state of her business to the contents of her closet. But in a recent Instagram post, Kandi revealed her surprising insecurity that has to do with her appearance — and honestly, it made us love her even more.

How to Watch

Watch The Real Housewives of Atlanta on Peacock and the Bravo App.

Let's back up. On April 1, Eva Marcille challenged her fellow RHOA cast members to a "wash face" challenge. "I would like for all of us amazing, fabulous ladies out there to go ahead and wash up that face," she said in a short video. "Moisturize and be bold enough to say hello to the world 'wash face' — no filter, no FaceTune, don't hide behind anything but your own beauty."

While Nene Leakes and Cynthia Bailey were quick to add their fresh-faced photos to the mix, Kandi reluctantly stepped up to bat with a surprising confession about going makeup free during a trying self-quarantine. "I’m lookin tired AF with these dark circles," Kandi explained in her glowing selfie. "No makeup, no lashes, hair ain’t done, nails f*cked up... This quarantine bs ain’t for me. Teaching school, cleaning, & cooking all day... I can’t take it!!!! This can’t be life."

Same, Kandi, same. But then she explained that in fact, she rarely goes makeup free in pics because she is self-conscious about her dark under eye circles. "I wasn't gonna do this challenge. You know how self-conscious I am about these dark circles," she explained. But it was her daughter Riley that gave her courage to post. "@rileyburruss said I had to be the example for my daughters to show we're beautiful without all the extras. So I put my insecurities to the side for them."

Amazing... and, as Riley commented, "So beautiful!"
