Riley Burruss has embarked on a natural hair journey, and she’s invited her followers along for the ride.

Over the past several years, The Real Housewives of Atlanta daughter has repeatedly proven she isn’t afraid to change up her look. The New York University student debuted her waist-length micro braids in March 2020, but decided to “cut all her hair off" the following month. Her mother, RHOA’s Kandi Burruss, explained the latter switch-up in an April 7, 2022, Instagram video that showed off Riley’s cropped 'do.

“Her hair was damaged & she wanted to cut it short & start all over,” Kandi captioned the post. “I like her Afro!”

Riley has since donned a wide variety of looks, including everything from long black locks and blonde loose waves to gorgeous crimson strands and a sleek brunette bob.

The Atlanta big sister continued her hair evolution earlier this month when she opted to ditch her braids and embrace her natural curls.

“She’s natural now,” she captioned a September 23 Instagram Story that highlighted her shorter hairstyle.

Although the change was nothing short of amazing, Riley admits it’s taken some time getting used to.

“I also took out my braids the other day, like, randomly — knowing that I don’t actually know how to do my real hair,” she said in a recent TikTok video. “So the past couple of days have been a real journey. The past few days have consisted of me asking my mom, ‘OK, how do I — what should I do when I go to sleep? Should I twist it? Should I brush it?’ I have a million questions and she’s sending me a million products.”

Riley said styling her natural hair is also quite time-consuming, so much so that it’s made her late on multiple occasions.

“I’m not used to that. I [used to] throw on a wig and go,” she continued. “But now it’s, like, OK I have to brush my hair out, unbraid it, brush it, put products on it — it’s a lot.”

While Riley received advice from her mom and a few friends, she called on her TikTok followers to offer some pointers and product recommendations.

“Taking yall with me on my hair journey,” she said in another TikTok. “Let me know some of your hair tips! :)) Gonna call this the [bonnet chronicles].”

Riley Burruss opens up about college life and her next chapter

The hair change comes about a month after Riley headed to Turks and Caicos to celebrate her 21st birthday. She was accompanied by a group of friends as well as her mom, Kandi; stepdad, Todd Tucker; and Todd’s daughter, Kaela Tucker. The aspiring A&R rep shared the getaway on social media, shortly before she entered NYU's 2023 fall semester.

Riley reflected on college life in a recent “get ready with me” video, and got real about the struggles of senior year.

“So, this is actually the third week of class, and I am not feeling it all,” she said in a TikTok last week. “I know everyone talks about ‘senioritis,’ but it’s real. Honestly, senior year is pretty stressful because it’s, like, you have to study, get good grades but then also think about, ‘Where am I gonna work? How am I gonna make money after this? When is my mom gonna cut me off?’”

She continued: “Overall, though, I think that senior year is the time you really learn how to balance and multi-task. You have to balance school, just your time to relax, and then you have to work... But, recently, I’ve really been focused on just growing mentally… just improving myself. And I feel like senior year is the perfect time to do that.”
