Did Tommy Hilfiger Imply That Gigi Hadid is Overweight?
The #RHOBH daughter cleared up the controversy.
On what planet does Gigi Hadid need to hide her body? Some comments that Tommy Hilfiger made during an interview with Yahoo! Style's Joe Zee last week seemed to imply that she might—on his runway, at least.
As part of the interview, Joe showed Tommy photos of celebrities he's worked with over the years, and asked him to describe that celeb in one word. After seeing a photo of Gigi wearing a poncho at his Fall 2015 show, Tommy described her as an "all-American girl next door with an exotic twist." He went on to tell the story behind the roomy ensemble. (Scroll down a bit, and you can see it here.)
"Our casting director said: she doesn't really fit, because she's not quite as tall as the other girls; she's not quite as thin. So, they put a red, white, and blue poncho on her, which covered a lot of her body." A little odd, right?
Gigi was silent on the statement for about a week, but recently opened up to Pret-a-Reporter. The model insisted that Tommy's comments were edited and taken out of context. "Tommy was rooting for me, and regardless of what the stylist of that season said or what he put me in, Tommy wanted me in the show...Tommy loved my curves," she said. "The next season, I wore a bikini on the same runway with the same stylist of the show that had previously put me in a poncho." And, since Gigi and Tommy are already working on a second collaboration, it seems like there's no bad blood whatsoever.
