Mohamed Hadid's Neighbors Speak Out Amid Ongoing Legal Battle Over His Mega-Mansion
The battle over the controversial mansion owned by Yolanda Hadid's ex-husband has taken another turn.
The neighbors of Mohamed Hadid's controversial mega-mansion are speaking out after city legislators blocked their claims for compensation for their ongoing legal fees in the battle over the Bel Air abode dubbed "Starship Enterprise."
In 2019, Mohamed, who was previously married to The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills alum Yolanda Hadid, received a state-issued court order to demolish the house (which he began working on in 2011) in response to his neighbors' civil lawsuit alleging that the construction endangered their properties. Hadid filed for bankruptcy, claiming that his company was unable to pay for the demolition; however, that claim was dismissed.
Hadid also allegedly owes nearly $1.2 million in unpaid property taxes on the unfinished abode.
Most recently, California's Supreme Court rejected Hadid’s appeal to review his case and overturn the decision to demolish the house.
According to the Daily Mail, Los Angeles City Council members voted 14-0 on August 25 to accept the recommendation of the City Attorney to reject a settlement offer proposed by a lawyer representing the group of neighbors, a verdict that has outraged members of the local community.
"The city's actions and inactions created human victims and the city should own up to its share of responsibility,' Joe Horacek, who lives below the 30,000-square-foot property, told the Daily Mail exclusively. "The city of Los Angeles was complicit in Mohamed Hadid's campaign to build one of the city's largest-ever illegal residences."
Prior to the vote, The Bel Air Association expressed similar sentiments, writing in a statement: "At every turn, this City has completely failed to hold Mohamed Hadid accountable for his actions despite the fact that City officials, having taken bribes, are complicit."
