Mind Blown: Dorinda Medley’s Broker Sold Kanye West His NYC Apartment Way Back When
The Real Housewives of New York City nice-maker shares a funny story about agent Laurie Cooper and 'Ye's pad, which is now for sale.
Dorinda Medley and Kanye West have an unexpected real estate connection, her personal broker, the always-entertaining Laurie Cooper, revealed on the The Daily Dish podcast. Laurie helped both The Real Housewives of New York City nice-maker and the man sometimes known as Yeezy buy apartments in Manhattan!
"I had gone with his mother and him all those years ago," Cooper recalled of West, who she met in 2004. "She was great. And she went to Century 21, she bought these crazy clothes and came back and he said, 'No, Mom, doesn't go together.' But she enjoyed the start of his celebrity. And he was lucky because the record company was paying for his rental and the budget was $5,000. I said, $5,000 — which was a lot of money in those years — buy something! So he said, you know, and they agreed. Buy an apartment. And he still has that apartment."
Actually, West purchased the property through LCooper in 2004 and then sold it in 2018. But the current owner of 'Ye's former all-white Soho apartment just put the place on the market for $4.7 million dollars.
The one-bedroom apartment is 2,327 square feet, has 10 foot ceilings, limestone floors, and pearwood cabinets, and floods with natural light, thanks to a generous amount of windows. It's the kind of place that could inspire beautiful songwriting or other creative pursuits.
"He was a great son," Cooper said of West. "Warm, lovely. When he'd walk with me, he'd hold my arm. He was just a lovely person. I really enjoyed my time with him."
