I Thought You Really Cared...

Simon talks Kellisms, bickering over bad press, and emotional threats via email!

Week five and we’re straight into the saga of Jill and Bethenny with B suspecting that Jill has run off to the Daily News to plant a story. Where ever would Bethenny have gotten that idea from? Well, let’s see. In Season 2 Jill ran off and gossiped to Cindy Adams at the NY Post about me and Alex, here Bethenny is suggesting she’s done so to her on this occasion and we strongly suspect Jill’s fingerprints were all over the Feb 4th rumor about Bravo cutting us from Season 4. So, maybe Jill finally has gotten a new hobby – gossiping (but isn’t that just like her old one?) ;-)

I remember when this ‘story’ came out and was surprised that it said that Bethenny was cutting ties with all the other Housewives as that’s not what I’d been seeing first hand between Alex and Bethenny. Now I had been getting weird emails but more on that later… It certainly seems that Bethenny was pretty p’d off with Jill but she does state that this is between her and Jill and that she’s going to call Jill and try and sort it out.

We lob downturn where Kelly is meeting Playboy journalist, Mike Guy. Mike is probably best known as someone who was sure he could survive 15 seconds of waterboarding (he understandably freaked after 4.5 seconds), so after that, surely interviewing Kelly would be a breeze. But low and behold she knew how to knock him for 6 and put him off his game. Tell him he’s the most handsome journalist she’d ever met in her life! However despite Kelly throwing out Kellisms like the “this is an organic experience – a breakthrough in journalism,” he obviously did get a scoop out of her as we find out why she can’t remember what she looked like in the photos. If you look at the March edition, this interview starts on page 92. On page 95 it reads, and I quote verbatim, “a month after these pictures were shot, she allegedly punched her 31 year old boyfriend Nick Stefanov, in the face, leaving a nasty gash.” Now that perhaps is why the photos that were published looked nothing like the ones we saw two weeks ago on episode 3, as the incident with Stefanov happened in early March 2009.

Out east in we see a nice scene between LuAnn and Victoria; and we get a chance to see that Victoria clearly has the talent to sketch (and yes Luann even I could guess that that was a shoe). These rare family scenes are even better this season when thrown in between the constant bickering. Real scenes, real family interaction – we need more of that.

After the first break we get a second mother/daughter scene although at this one Kelly drops in. Ally is doing a photo shoot for Seventeen magazine but it almost seems that Jill got more of a thrill after being associated with Kelly, as she intones to us all on interview, how proud she was that Kelly was with her. Don’t get me wrong I have nothing against Kelly, but I suppose if your fabulous circle of people extends to Michael Lohan and John Gosselin, as it did for Jill over the summer, then yes, Kelly is a step up. Now with the shoot in Kelly’s words Jill was so over the top; did it relax Ally? You be the judge.

Anyway while Ally is changing and as Kelly is telling her about her Playboy interview Jill speaks the truth. “Tell me everything – I need to know all the details.” Why? Isn’t sometimes too much exhausting? But then Jill adds the final touch when she tells us that there’s no such thing as the perfect person, (that when looking for a partner) you have to compromise? I, can in honestly state, that that is not always the case, viz Alex and me.

Alex and Derek meet up as Alex had co-opted Derek on to the board of the Brooklyn Fashion Week{end} put on by the Brooklyn Style Foundation. (next one is Sunday April 11th). First Bethenny, then Kelly & Ramona arrive to help select the designers for the weekend and give some feedback. However, the principal reason was to choose the designer whose clothes would close the show. But of course when Housewives are involved, an appetizer of bickering had to be endured prior to the main course of designer selection. When Bethenny said that she was sure Jill had planted the story in Gatecrasher, Ramona quickly jumped in stating that Jill wouldn’t stoop that low. Ramona, how’s your memory? Did you forget how season 2 started?

Within a nanosecond, Kelly and Bethenny are at it; and it takes an Alex that I have seen many times but you the viewers haven’t, to silence the bickerers, bring them back on track and concentrate on the issue at hand. As we’ve heard her say on the previews “she’s calm until she’s not” (and then watch out!!)

I dropped in during my lunch break. Bethenny is shocked that Ramona is embracing me and not running away gagging… and then it’s time for the designers. Can’t say I am overly happy with how this scene looks. I have no compunction about being associated with people just starting out and getting a feel for an industry. While it does nobody any good to be mislead or congratulated when it’s not deserved, I do think we can all recognize that not every one can afford the best fabrics when making their samples? Hey, I have been to presentations put on as part of New York Fashion Week where I’ve seen economical fabrics. The form and the shape should be judged first and funnily enough this is what Kelly rightly said to almost all the young designers, but unfortunately we didn’t get to see that tonight. Loris Diran arrived and at last it seemed like the Manhattan/Brooklyn tiff was over, the closing designer was found. Ramona and Alex go to try on some dresses giving Kelly another chance to have a go at Bethenny, which seemed a little disingenuous as we hear Kelly at the end say that she called a truce – the conversation is over! Kelly, Bethenny thought it was over at least until you brought it up. AGAIN!

Continuing Ramona’s season of renewal, she has lunch with Joni telling her that she and Mario have planned to renew their marriage vows. This segues into a discussion of Ramona’s relationship with her parents – her father in particular. I cannot imagine what it must have been like to have lived in a household like that and while better late than never it’s awful that she carried this burden for 50 odd years before being released from it. It certainly affected how Ramona related to Alex, our close relationship, and me but I am glad that it doesn’t anymore.

Kelly and her assistant Taryn go over the Playboy interview again when Jill emails Kelly who proceeds to read it to Taryn, and by extension us. It seems a little birdie had told Jill that everything was good between Kelly and Bethenny, and Jill ‘s email clearly seemed to portray dissatisfaction that Kelly could be friendly with Bethenny. The “I thought you really cared” line was the kicker, as even Kelly realized, that line was such an emotional threat. I remember at the time getting a similar email from Jill warning me that Bethenny had been filming with someone who was a friend of Alex’s and mine, as if his filming with her was disloyal to us? I don’t know but even if I have a bust up with a friend I allow my other friends to play grown-ups and make their own decisions about mixing with them. This ‘my way or the highway’ viewpoint just seems to so self-centered and petty.

During the ad break the little snippet of Mario being ‘directed’ by Ramona was cute. It’s good to see when a man knows his place.

LuAnn arrives and she brings Jill a “Go Big or Go Home’ goblet, which I think was a compliment, but her arrival coincides with Bethenny calling Jill to try and sort through their issues. Bethenny seemed to really try on this call but Jill’s face while Bethenny was talking conveyed exactly how she felt. Jill’s closing monologue shows true colors.

Yes, LuAnn, you can’t believe she called but remember you had suggested that a fashion show was the wrong place to discuss their problem. Honestly I’ve been friends with them both and and at loggerheads as well, but on this occasion Bethenny seemed to hold out some hope on this call only to be smirked at and smacked down.

Wow with toxic friends like those... If a week prior they were written about as frenemies it would seem true after hearing Jill’s emails and the way she reacted on by telling Bethenny that she is now her mortal enemy. Who wants a friend like that?
