Luann: The Whole Situation Is Really Sketchy

Luann tells us what she thinks about Sonja's new business venture and gives her thoughts on Carole's new relationship.

By Luann de Lesseps

I guess it’s fair to say that this episode went from clash to clash to clash. Lots of strong personalities coming together, all passionate and each of them with plenty to talk about. Sometimes, vent about.

How to Watch

Watch The Real Housewives of New York City on Peacock and catch up on the Bravo app

Bethenny is a business woman, and a wildly successful one. I think that’s clear at this point. She stopped herself from giving unsolicited business advice, which I’ve found myself doing with Sonja for years. I adore Sonja and always have. She’s incredibly vulnerable, and I’ve become very protective of her. But, unfortunately, she sets herself up for these eye-rolling reactions from her friends, because there’s a lot of questionable things happening in her life right now. From the “sexy novel” to the toaster that never toasted and a lifestyle brand, I’d say it’s very confusing. I’ve never been to a business meeting where we couldn’t talk about the actual business. CEO, CMO, CSO, CFO…just missing a UFO, and you’ve got yourself a spinoff!

Bethenny asked simple, straightforward questions, the same questions Heather and I have asked. They’re all fair questions! She wasn’t being “bitchy” with Sonja and her team; she was being honest, real, and a businesswoman. Heather and I have been honest with Sonja in the past, and that’s precisely why she cut us out of meetings and the discussion altogether. Now that Bethenny’s chimed in, her opinion might be tossed out with the rest of ours. Dorinda suggested that the rest of us almost get a rise out of mocking Sonja and have a “faux concern” for her and her ventures. That’s simply not true! I care about Sonja deeply and just want to know that she’s OK. I don’t want to see her being taken advantage of. She’s been at this collection for years, always launching this spring! Don’t get me wrong, Sonja has exquisite taste, and the designs are beautiful. Despite all those sketches, the whole situation is really sketchy.

Sonja Morgan...Coming Soon?

Anyway, leopard and turbans seem to be trending now? Might be great for spring?

Now, about Carole

I knew all about this before Carole actually came to me and told me herself. Of course, my niece had filled me in, because she was very upset. How would you react to hearing about someone you’d broken up with and still care about having a fling with your aunt’s 50-something-year-old friend? It was pretty “scandalous” amongst the group, which is why Heather and Kristen--Carole’s dearest pals--reacted the way they did. They all knew it was taboo at the very least. Look, I understand 20-somethings are nice to have around, I have 20-year-old children! The larger issue is this: This guy was my niece’s ex-boyfriend, and they were still “seeing each other,” probably unknown to Carole. She recklessly put me in a very awkward position with my family! And you watched her say it this episode: She didn’t care! Not about my niece, not about me and what I faced with my family. I did my best to gracefully end the conversation so as to not add to the embarrassing situation by saying, “We’ll figure it out.” We obviously didn’t see things the same way. And still don’t! Look, I want Carole to be happy--of course I do--but at what expense?
